Installing SmartMARC v5 for Windows

Technical Note Summary:
This document explains the process of installing SmartMARC v5 on a Windows machine. It also addresses the system requirements recommended to run the application.
Hardware and Operating System Requirements:
- Pentium 2 Processor
- Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP
- 128 MB RAM suggested, 64 MB minimum.
- An Internet connection is required for Z39.50 searching.
Getting Started:
This document assumes one already has the Windows SmartMARC installer. The installer is available on the Automation Solutions for Mac and Windows CD in the SmartMARC v5.07 folder and also here.
Installing SmartMARC:
Double click on the SmartMARC installer and the SmartMARC setup screen will appear. Refer to Image 1.

Click next to continue with the installation. The COMPanion Corporation Electronic End User License Agreement will appear. Read the agreement carefully and click Yes to agree, or click No to quit the installation process. Refer to Image 2.

If you clicked Yes, the Choose Destination Location screen will appear. If you accept the default location of C:\Program Files\SmartMARC v5 Folder, click Next. If you would like to install SmartMARC anywhere other than the default location, specify where you would like to install the program in the Destination Directory window, or click Browse. See Image 3. When you have finished choosing where to install the program, click Next.

The Ready to Install window will appear. Refer to Image 4. Click Next to continue installation. SmartMARC will now install to the directory specified in the Destination Directory field.

The Finished screen will appear when installation is completed. Click Close. Refer to Image 5.

The SmartMARC v5 folder will now appear on your screen with shortcut icons. The SmartMARC v5 icon will launch the program while the Remove SmartMARC v5 shortcut icon will remove the SmartMARC program from your system. Refer to Image 6.

Launching SmartMARC v5
The installation process will create a Shortcut to SmartMARC v5.exe icon on your desktop and a SmartMARC v5 Folder in the location you specified during the installation process. Double click on the Shortcut to SmartMARC v5.exe icon to launch the program, or navigate to your SmartMARC v5 Folder and launch the program by double clicking on the SmartMARC v5 icon. Please refer to Image 7 for an example of the SmartMARC v5 Folder.

The first time you launch SmartMARC, the registration window will appear. Fill in the fields with the information that appears on the registration letter sent with the SmartMARC software subscription. Refer to Image 8.

Click OK and the SmartMARC Search screen will appear. SmartMARC is now installed and you are ready to begin using the program!! Refer to Image 9.
